Last week in Pamukkale, Turkey, we met up with a Melbourne family driving around the world in the opposite direction to us.

Danny, Sandy and their kids Maddy and Raffy [see www.drivearoundtheworld.wordpress.com] have been through parts of south-east Asia, North America, the UK, Europe and then through Albania to Turkey. They have been on the road since April 2008.

We met up for a few days, lots of travel talk, nostalgia about home and comparing the rigours of border crossings in whacky places. A visit to the ancient site of Aphrodisias was a terrific way to see the kids nagging their parents about more old rocks. We gave them Vegemite, they gave Jack 800 new songs for his ipod [but he still plays the same stufff anyway]. The barter economy.

I am so pleased that you went to Samarkand and Bouhara! It’s close enough to Kazakhstan! I wish you would have more pictures! I miss my Kazakstan!

Odd thing to do really. You could have spent the time in London and Paris and the rest of the continent. Still, I have enjoyed the occasional post from some very exotic loactions.

Back to the humdrum of normality come January, I heard. Good memories for you though, I am sure. If you have a feeling that you are not being missed on Melbourne radio, then you should not have given the ok for Ali Moore to be your replacement. Tonya did the job on Monday. She is quite good without being a threat.

    Hi J&J

Just flicked through your website and found it really cool. Nice photos Jack! Still can’t believe that it’s only $3 AUD for 165 litres of diesel in Iran!! We are now in Istanbul, Turkey. It is so funky here! The people are nice (well most of them anyway), the food is yum, and the city itself is awesome.
Hope you 2 are keepin’ healthy,

    From Maddy :-)*)

It was nice to chat with you in Pamukkale. Good to hear that you have reached France in one piece. We have continued our trip in Turkey and are now in New Zealand.
Enjoy the rest of your trip and reunion with your wife in Paris.

Best wishes for Christmas and that you will settle back easily in the reality of life in 2009

I have been disappointed that we have heard nothing about Europe. Hoping there will be an update soon.
